Cape
Canaveral - Building AF Space Shuttle SRB
Refurbish Facility
On the
grounds of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station
lies the facility where the Space Shuttle Solid
Rocket Boosters are brought after retrieval from
the ocean after jettison on each shuttle launch.
The complex performs the cleanup and
refurbishment of the SRB for shipment back to
Thiokol in Utah so that the booster can be
"reloaded" and prepared for a future
shuttle mission. The frustum and avionics
sections are prepared at the Cape for mating to
the boosters. Below are pictures of Building AF
at the CCAFS including retrieved booster
components from a prior mission.
